    Monte Vista Camping?

Anyone know any spots for camping in Monte Vista, South Fork, Del Norte, Alamosa Area? or within 30 min? I've never been there and don't know the area at all. Is there even anything there?

Holy crap, yes there is! Um, take hwy149 south from Gunnison I think. It's like a fork in the road as you're heading to Blue Mesa Res. As you go along hwy149, the Rio Grande flows alongside. I just can't remember where it starts. I don't have my map in front of me, but yes, there are camping areas along the way.

Do a Google search of the area.

Oh and the Rio is absolutely gorgeous in that area.

Oh and Sean, here's one more...http://rockies-gold.net/MontroseRides/silver_thread.htm

...and just in case anyone else is interested, that site has some amazing photos of almost 400 miles of Southwestern CO. It includes the Million Dollar Highway along with the Silver Thread Highway...both scenic byways. And that site is a motorcycle touring site as well.

God, I'm getting all nostalgic now...sheesh! I love that area!

The Sand Dunes are a great place, and very close. Just watch out for Kangaroo mice...they are all over that area at night

    Re: Monte Vista Camping?

Since your there you should ride La Manga and Cumbres passes heading south out of the San Luis Valley. highway 160 i think it heads from Alamosa to Chama, NM Its a beautiful ride. Wolf Creek pass which comes into the north end of the valley into Del Norte. This is all if you haven't left yet. Either way enjoy the hell out of yourself.
