Per the article, Anita was sitting at the light when Lora Hunt (the driver of the car), who was doing her nails, looked up and ran into the back of Anita. Anita was thrown 200 feet and killed. The police found nail polish on the air bag and on the inside of the car.

Sgt. Chris Thompson of the Lake County Sheriff's office said distracted driving is "fairly typical" behavior for motorists.



Thompson said responders at the scene in Wauconda, Ill., discovered the interior of the car and the deployed airbag covered with red nail polish.



Thompson said that he often sees drivers doing all sorts of distracting activities while in motion.

And you're not ticketing them, why? Oh, the fine is probably only $35 and your bosses would rather you write $350 speeding tickets to people going a few miles an hour over the ridiculously low speed limit on limited access, no crossroad highways.

Hunt, who is a registered nurse, was ticketed with failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident but was not arrested, police said.

And as long as that's the response from our law enforcement authorities who are more concerned with generating money with speeding tickets, it will continue to happen. Distracted drivers killing motorcyclists isn't a public safety issue. People going 5 over on the interstate while moving with traffic will lead to massive numbers of deaths. I'm glad they have their priorities straight.

This reminds me of the girl here in Boulder a week or two ago that nearly sideswiped me while doing her nails. I just don't understand how people can be doing that stuff while driving.

Maybe I'm different, maybe I'm OCD, or maybe I'm just paranoid, but when I'm driving on busy streets in my truck I don't even have so much as the radio on because I'm looking out for morons trying to kill me in their 1-2 ton coffins.

Anyone want to start a new campaign to get drivers to start paying attention and looking for motorcycles more?

It's ALL about revenue collection, not "safety" as they claim. I saw an accident right next to me that was caused by a woman dialing her cell. Many years ago I was almost killed by a couple stupid, distracted, teenaged girls slamming into me at a stoplight. If I'd gotten tossed into the 55mph cross-traffic, I'd have been done.

In Boulder, it's the texting that gets me. Poeple aren't paying attention at all. I can't even say it's woman (relating to this thread), I see just as many men (I should say boys) doing it as well. Unfucking real.

I think it's screwy that police always assume the motorcyclist is at fault. And they wonder why we kick in doors to get a drivers attention.
