    Saddle Bag Question

So the time has come for me to stop jury rigging my backpacks on my bike for long trips and buy a saddle bag set. So my question is, do I have to buy a specific type for my G1 SV650 or do all bags generally fit anything? What are some quality brands? What are some recommended brands? What do you have and what do you like? Thanks in advance all.

Lol has gone from meaning, "laugh out loud" to "I have nothing else to say".

Why is a school zone 20 mph? That seems like the optimal cruising speed for pedophiles...

    Re: Saddle Bag Question

Just got some bags. Ebay, $65. They seem pretty universal but might need slight alteration. In the pic below, I got the Cortech saddle bags (and tail bag) and they just went under the passenger seat (left). However Angela also has the Cortech saddle bags (expandable ones for her hair dryer ) and on the SV650 the person before her cut the strap so it would fit a little better/more forward.

I have a bungy over them in order to hold the tent on, other wise very stable. They come with mounting straps and rain covers, works like a champ. Totally stable at higher speeds (my "friend" told me, I wouldn't know, I don't speed)

So far I love them, no problems at all!

Just sell your SV for a VFR and get some REAL side bags.

    Re: Saddle Bag Question

I picked up a Nelson Rigg setup from Newenough.com on a monster clearance sale. I have the saddle bags with the attachable tail bag and I've used them a lot. Very versatile and adjustable. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another set if I had to.

    Re: Saddle Bag Question

I've got a very similar (if not the same) bags as Shiny and I LOVE them! I got mine at Performance for a fairly decent price and you are able to pack a TON into them. There's a lot of different ways you can secure them to the bike too. I ended up with both of the top straps for the saddle bags under the seat and need to readjust them, so that is why they are a tad lower than they should be in the pic. Everybody I've talked to about them so far says that they have beat the heck out of their Cortechs and they stand up great!

Hard bags are expensive, but worth it if you're gonna carry a lot of crap on a regular basis. We carry both Givi and Shad. I went with the Shad top box for the FZ1, and I am pretty happy with it. It's allegedly 50 liters, and will happily swallow 2 full face helmets and 2 jackets. As far as soft luggage goes, the stuff from Gears is pretty high on the value :cost scale, as well as Tourmaster and Cortech. Gimme a call or stop by, and we can check out some options.
    Thanks, Jim

    Re: Saddle Bag Question

I have a set of Joe Rocket saddle bags and have yet to fill them to capacity and I have taken them several times to Denver for reserves. I have packed 2 complete uniforms, gym clothes, 3 pair of size 12 shoes, 2 changes of clothes and a bunch of other misc crap and that all fit without expanding the bags out. I think I paid $40 off craigslist and they have been worth thier weight in gold so far.

    There's no place like home............

+1 on hard bags. I have the factory ones on my VFR (they are made by Givi) and I love them. Secure, dry, and they detach easily.

I have a set of Cortech Sport Saddle Bags for our rentals and so far all of my renters have been really happy with them. In fact I've sold two sets after people came back and just had to have them. Fit a number of different bikes (also our Can Am) and are great quality.

Competition Accessories has the Cortech system on sale right now:
    http://www.compacc.com/p.cfm/c/1118000/p/3104

I've bought from this company before and they have always been awesome!!!
They also just emailed out the discount code# MAYSLE that is good through the end of the month. They didn't specify how big the discount is but did say that it includes free shipping on orders over $100.
