It is with great sadness that I write that Nathan Skogen, son of Terry Skogen died in a motorcycle accident last weekend.

Terry is an MRA racer and has been in attendance at most of the trackdays I've ever run. I spoke with him at length today and learned that he and his twin sons Nathan and Jon had been on a motorcycle ride together last weekend when Nathan lost control and crashed. It occurred right in front of his twin brother, Jon, who also subsequently crashed and was injured. Jon is home and recovering from his injuries. He is expected to make a full recovery.

Terry introduced his kids to the sport the right way. He insisted that both take the MSF course before being able to ride and both boys were in full protective gear at the time of the accidents. Nathan and Jon have both grown up riding dirt bikes and were gaining experience on the street by riding with their dad.

Please keep the Skogen family in your thoughts and prayers in the coming days. Terry was holding his son when Nathan passed. As a new father I cannot imagine the pain that is associated with such a loss.

By you saying how he tought his kids to ride the right way that goes to show you one huge thing... I dont matter if your a squid or someone that has taken any and all training and practice that you can possibly squeeze in in this life.. It will not keep you from dying while riding on your bike when you are surrounded by a bunch of complete MORONS!

Very sad, so young. I think it's important to remember and learn from these unfortunate incidents. Even as a fairly new rider I realize how easy it is to become comfortable on a motorcycle which can often lead to complacency and daring. Let this remind us all of our own mortality. My condolences and prayers to his family and may he rest in peace.
