    New helmet, Shoei or Bell?

Which helmet do you think I should get?

I have always like the RF-1000 Camino but have heard they fog up easily.

My dad used to be sponsored by Bell helmets back in the day so I have some weird connection to them and I really like the Bell Star Ace of Spades and motorcycle closeouts has them for $250.

The bell Star has been getting great reviews, all the reviews I have read say its as good or better than the Shoei. Bell kinda fell by the wayside but has been making a comeback lately.

My AGV doesn't have a motorcycle underneath it, which makes it slower than your Jester.

I don't understand the question, what would I get if I were you? Because if it was for me I wouldn't get either.

+1 Fit is king. If neither one actually fits, they can't provide the best protection. I am a long time Shoei guy, but have resisted replacing my(6 yr old) DuHamel replica because it fits well and they don't have any graphics I like.

Also I have tried on both and liked the fit of both. I currently have a Scorpion exo700 and I like it but its too big.

The Bell Star is well engineered and comfortable, be careful with the sizing though (if you wear a large in Shoei, the fit will most likely be medium in the Bell sizing).

I just got the Camino, so NO, please don't copy me. lol j/k. (I do love my Shoei's) Get whatever fits your melon the best. If you're worried about the shield fogging up, perhaps try a Suomy. I've also heard that Scorpions don't fog up either, but I can't verify that since I haven't tried one. Can any Scorpion owners chime in on that subject ?

+1 on the best fit. Otherwise, I just picked up an EXO 700, I'll let you know about the fogging. But the Scorpion I was borrowing never had any fogging issues either.

I have my exo 700 crackhead for 5 days now. I wore this thing when I was at the MSF course and probably 1 - 1.5 hours a day since then. So far, I am loving it. It does not fog. When I tried one Shoei on, the fogging was the first thing I noticed. This helmet has some plastics to cover your nose. So, when you breathe the air goes through there instead of to the shield.

I think it has good ventilation. Around 40mph, you start hearing wind noise. It doesn't bother me but then I probably rode that fast for 15-20 mins total.

I have no clue about Bell helmets. I was comparing Arai, Shoei and Scorpion before I purchased my Scorpion. I thought they all fit very well. No pressure points, and somehow my big head fits into a large Arai/Shoei/Scorpion. Ultimately, I want an Arai Corsair V. It's lighter, has more ventilation and that extra 10mm wide shield (to me at least) makes a great difference.

Forgot to mention: I almost bought your Shoei, exact same color.

Re: New helmet, Shoei or Bell?

I have 3 Shoeis, 2 Sharks, 2 AGV's, a Suomy, and an Icon. To be honest, as much as I love my Shoeis, my AGV GP-Tech is probably the most comfortable. The Shark RSR2 is probably the "safest" according to all the tests they've done on them. The RSR2 doesn't see a whole lot of street use since it's my race helmet, but it's comfy, fits well, and apparently uber-safe. Go with a reputable helmet company that exceeds minimum standards, fits well, and you'll be good to go.

Re: New helmet, Shoei or Bell?

I am just now seeing this thread. I understand you have already bought the helmet.
Still want to let you know that I have the RF-1000 now. Mine is an older model (4yrs), and it fogs up easily in cooler conditions. Quite a bit if rainy, and to a point that I think is unsafe. Now I am looking at the X-Eleven, which is pricier, but I heard it does not fog as easily.
    Cannot comment on Bell's.

I rode this morning when it was cool and since I only have the clear screen rode with sun glasses. It was fogging up pretty easy, but after my glasses got to the same temp it was fine. The breath guard helps alot.

Glad you got to take it out for a spin. Seems Shoei has improved the helmet by adding a breath guard. May have to revisit that x-eleven decision.... .
