    Now what?

Didn't think it would happen, but I'm the latest casualty of the recession.

    Wow, total shock...

So now what do you do?

    Damn Brian..... I'm sorry man.

I would suggest getting your unemployment paperwork rolling ASAP. You pay into it while you're working, so have it pay you back, while you're looking.

Sorry to hear that you lost your job. It happens to everyone. But don't waste time taking a personal day. Start looking for another job while you still have your mojo.

And then go for a ride and clear out the pipes.

How does the unemployment work? I got a couple weeks notice with pay coming where I believe I'm still considered an employee. I also got a severance package so when can I even file?

You can file now, but you'll just be asked about severance pay. You'll inter the time that you will continue to get paid and your unemployment benefits will start after.

His last day is at the end of his pay. If his severance pay is for, say, 1 month, then he is eligible for UEM at then end of that month, but can apply now. It takes 4-6 weeks to process the appication, send papers to him for signatures and to send back.

I think my "technical" last day is going to be a couple months in the future. I should probably just start filling paper work out now.

Guess it's time to put some miles on the RC that I haven't been able to this year...

I worked for Weyerhaeuser, which is the largest forest products company in the world.

They are directly tied to the construction industry and they've been bleeding cash like no tomorrow for the last two years. They've been shuttering plants and laying off people all over the place and finally hit the software group. They're dropping 30% of the staff.

It could be good time for a "stuff you haven't used in a while" sale. I made a few bucks selling all my cool stuff so I could pay insurance on my truck...

Yeah, and since we just moved the rest of my wife's stuff out of her parents house, we've got a ton of shit to get rid of that hasn't been used in years. I see a garage sale in my future...
