love it or hate it... it's getting positive reviews.

    2011 Ducati Diavel

I've seen several "first ride" reports and they all seem to be positive.

Personally, I think it's as ugly as it gets, but beauty's in the eye of the check writer. Will it truly be the game changer that everyone is saying or will it be destined to the back row of the dealership with the new VFR and the B-King? Time will tell.

I'm not a fan either. It isn't hideous, but it just looks like a Harley V-rod and a Ninja had a baby.

I say a winner if it steals customers from Harley and other VTwin cruiser brands. But you won't catch me on one.

    I agree.

I was a little interested in the write ups on this bike until I saw it had something like a 240 rear tire. I realized then, the market that Ducati was aiming for.

There was a "Last Page" write up in one of the recent Motorcyclists mags regarding H-D and Ducati. The jist of the story was that Motorcylist was wondering if Ducati was taking over for H-D. I thought it was hilarious (especially the part regarding the F-150 Desmo Edition Lol)........

From Motorcyclist........."After a long, noisy ride as the official bad-boy brand in global moto-culture, Harley-Davidson now seems to be settling into an image that's a bit less edgy-perhaps something in a Briggs & Stratton or a Black & Decker, but with a bit more give in the waist and seat for greater comfort. Wasting no time, ripped and buff Ducati has swiftly filled the cultural-icon vacuum with its own special blend of bikes, babes and 'bunctiousness.

Yes, we needed a "b" word there, so we just plain made that one up. Maybe that's a testament of just how fresh this whole new Ducati movement is. Cast off your valve springs and rejoice! World Ducati Week in Misano, Italy, marks the epicenter of this seismic shift in motorcycling culture. This ain't Sturgis, Cletus. Less beef jerky, and much more quirky, WDW has a whole different look.

Leather vests are out and Desmo tats are in. Women are objectified (some things never change), and Body Mass Indexes are trending lower. That's heart-healthy, no? And, of course, Ducatis are cleaned ... or at least vigorously sponged.

Seems fairly harmless overall. But this societal realignment is just getting started. We may be in for a long, red ride before Ducati becomes as mainstream as Harley-Davidson is today. When will we know? When the Ford F-150 Desmo Edition comes along, that would be a pretty good clue."

I'll have to save judgment on looks until I see it in person. I do like it's apparently performance (supposedly faster through the 1/4 than the 1198S) and the fact it's comfortable without losing it's cornering ability.

... or maybe it's a Ducati for those aging baby boomers who can't fold themselves up on a supersport anymore?

I know I'm not a boomer, but I'm certainly aging! I've been putting loads of "townie" miles on the 748 here lately, and that thing is a rack! I guess there's "rider rust" to some degree, but yikes.

And oh yeah.... I would ride the living crap out of a Diavel. I like it all the way around.

I rarely think of motorcycles without a little yearning. They are about moving, and humans, I think, yearn to move – it’s in our cells, in our desires. We quiet our babies with cyclic movement, and we quiet ourselves by going.

Just get a monster and move on.

I love the city/cafe/urban bike style so when I saw this for the first time I was kind of digging it. But then I put the monster next to it and immediately crossed it off the list of bikes I'll buy before I die.

I think it is a smart move for Ducati to diversify into other segments of the market. GSXR riders dont criticize Suzuki for building Boulevards so why should Ducati riders criticize this?

My buddy has a 1000cc monster and he's a little guy so when I showed him this he immediately got a boner over the electronics and fancy computer integrated features. I think more than anything that's probably going to be its appeal. Especially with the selectable power maps.

Sounded like they're using the same setup as on the strada. If so, it's a great setup.

Makes sense. Strada is an awesome bike for what it is. I'd still have a Speed Triple, a Street Triple, an SR2, and a 1000 Sport Classic before I'd get a Diavel.

Why didn't they turn it over to their tame racing rider, the Stig's Motorcycle Riding Cousin?
