Abandoned Buildings in... Denver / Front Range / The West

I'm working on a series of photo concepts that I'd like to produce this spring/summer. I'm trying to comprise a list of abandoned buildings as settings for this concept. I have a few ideas, like the Gates building in Denver, and the old town of Gilman, but other than that I'm coming up a bit empty.

Any ideas that you kind folks wouldn't mind sharing? I'd be willing to travel pretty much anywhere along the front range.

Are you looking for interior "urban decay" type shots? If so, you may want to put Gate's on the back burner for a while.

Google should turn up some decent websites. There used to be all kind of urban exporer websites, but they seem to have been...abandoned. Just read someone died checkin out the Gates factory. Interesting.

There's some sugar mills up in Longmont that are abandoned. I've been wanting to go check it out for a while.

Maybe scope out the platte valley area, up into Commerce City?

Problem is that Denver's done a decent job of cleaning up abandoned industrial and commercial sites. Stapleton would have been cool if it hadn't become Highlands Ranch Central...

Try the area north and east of downtown, up near five points.

There's also the old sugar mill in Longmont, it burned last year and I got a few pics of the bike with it as a backdrop.

Also a few dilapidated hangers at the Longmont airpark, though last time I went they fixed them up.

Out on the way to HPR there is an abandoned set of old 50's or 60's style motel buildings, I've always meant to stop there.

As far as mining era structures, Caribou ghost town, and the old graveyards up behind Central City have a few structures.

What about NW Denver up off of 76 between 70 and 25? I'm not too familiar with that part of town, but last time I was up there I saw some pretty cool industrial areas.

The sugar mill in Longmont for sure. The old flour mill burned but the sugar mill unfortunately is still there. Urban/rural decay in abundance.

Just west of Nederland is the old Caribou mining town. There is one stone building still (mostly) standing ( 39°58'46.20"N, 105°34'37.39"W):

Another one next to it is a little more decayed (off in the distance in this shot):

And there is one collapsed wooden building:

It's an easy ride/drive to get there.
