That would leave current T-Mobile phones without 3G. They would need to be replaced with phones that use AT&T's 3G frequencies. AT&T said it had factored the cost of replacement phones into the total cost of the acquisition.

Curious to see if this actually happens. I'm sure some Antitrust issues will definately arise. I'm also suprised at how fast both boards agreed to the terms of the sale. If this does go through, bye bye sprint. I'm not impressed with either companies network coverage or speeds...so I'll stick with VZW

Well its gonna happen just not for a year, it wont be smooth and Att might have to sell of some stuff but it will go through. On the plus side it will help the FCC and Mr Obama make good on their promise to move more highspeed networks to rual areas.
It's identical, though Verizon is slightly ahead of AT&T in terms of time, however AT&T is ahead of Verizon in terms of overall compatibility with their existing network. Verizon runs a CDMA network, being upgraded with LTE which is based off GSM (AT&T's network). AT&T will have an easier time integrating LTE into their current infrastructure, where Verizon must build new infrastructure from scratch and integrate with their CDMA network. Still, Verizon is ahead of the game, but my feeling is that over time, AT&T will have their network done before Verizon does. AT&T is now with their 3G GSM network (~7 years old) where Verizon will be in about 5 years because they have zero GSM network aside from their new LTE stuff. AT&T will be able to expand to greater coverage more quickly because of the ease of integration with their existing GSM network.Who's got the better 4G data network, ATT or VZW?
And for the record, the T-Mobile chick is not that great looking.

I'm gonna be pissed....my hatred for t-mobile will now have to be shifted to a much more expensive hatred for ATT. One thing t-mobile does allow is tethering, and they don't cripple the factory software that allows it. ATT throttles you if you fart in the wrong direction. My obsolete phone will now become useless much sooner than I am accustomed to. This sucks more than Home Depot's business practices...
