    Winter Riding Gear

Any opinions on what's a good and affordable set of heated 12v riding gear/liners? I'm lookin' at Gerbing's stuff and it seems like pretty much what I need, and I can get into everything for about $435 online through their website (clearance stuff).

What else should I be looking at? (Already tired of layering up like a damn mummy....)

I have the Synergy gloves and they work great. For the rest of me I just use an Arctiva snowmobile suit but at $435 for everything heated the Arctiva wont save you too much.

I have the Synergy vest and it keeps me toasty all winter. Combine it with heated grips or gloves and you're fine. For some reason my legs don't get too cold with the liner in my riding pants.

I think I'll be getting a pair of these but I'm not sure if they arrive in stores until early December. If interested you can always check with your local Hardley dealer.

I have the Synergy jacket, pants, and gloves and love them. They work fantastic IMHO:

BTW: MGO is having a sale tomorrow, wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

My legs/toes also don't get too cold (unless its wet).

I was looking at this instead of a vest. It's a fully heated jacket liner.

and these for the gloves (which plug into the jacket).

I might be confusing the dates, but I think Motogear has some sort of coupon thingie going on today (Sat) where you scratch off a ticket and then you get the % of discount that shows. But please don't hold me to it.

    Re: Winter Riding Gear

So this is a bit later than I'd hoped, but luckily it hasn't been too cold yet this winter to preclude me riding (when the roads permit).

Anyway, looks like I'm about to drop $470 (after tax) on Gerbing's heated jacket liner, G3 gloves, and dual-temp controller. Purchasing at Grand Prix on Tuesday...unless someone can convince me to otherwise.

I tried on the jacket liner, but not with my riding jacket. I don't foresee an issue, but I'll have the jacket with me on Tuesday for one last test fit prior to purchase. The G3 gloves aren't quite as dexterous as the T5, but enough so that I don't really think the extra $30 is warranted for the T5. The G3s are about as flexible as my current non-heated winter-weight gloves and that's fine (plus they'll break in a bit).

Anyway...thoughts before I pull the trigger in two days?

    Hey Kyle,

    Winter riding gear:

Look at the Firstgear stuff. It's cheaper and all has great reviews.

You can get gloves, jacket liner, pants liners and heated socks. Just make sure your bike has the excess power to run it without draining your battery.

Con: not locally available (that I know of). Shelling out this kind of dough I need to be able to try it on and be certain I will be happy with it. Grand Prix has Gerbing's in stock. Anyone local have Firstgear? The minor cost difference between the two would not warrant getting less than comfortably fitting heat gear.

I won't need pants liner or socks, as my legs and feet never feel cold even after a couple hours in the cold. I've verified that with just the jacket and gloves the R/R on my S3 is fine as well.

Thanks for the suggestion, though. I had looked at FG stuff earlier this evening, but dismissed it for the above reasons.

    Re: Winter Riding Gear

I haven't seen it locally but then again I haven't really looked.

How big is the price difference? Don't forget about sales tax.

I ordered my gloves from Traecy @ Jackal. I'll pick them up tomorrow or Tuesday, I'm hoping I picked the right size. I still need to order the heat troller.

I would call around the local shops on Tuesday and ask if they carry it, it might be slightly more common this time of year. Just remember that you want the jacket to be a snug fit with just wearing a long sleeve shirt (or compression shirt).

You'll be glad you have the gear when you come to the Devil's Spine and we're leaving Colorado (last time it was 29 degrees but hopefully this year its warmer).

    Re: Winter Riding Gear

So I pulled the trigger today on heated gear. Got it all home and hooked up and am VERY impressed with how hot this stuff gets.

Now I can ride COMFORTABLY all year long. Quite happy with this fact.

Thanks everyone for the input. 'Tis appreciated. =)

    Re: Winter Riding Gear

Congrats! I picked up my own heated gloves today. I haven't hooked them up yet but they're well insulated and the leather is oh so soft on my skin. Like the King...
