    '13 Mustangs...

Sorry GM, your ZL1 just isnt gonna cut it...

    http://mustangsdaily.com/blog/2011/1...neup-overview/

    cliff notes...

    New 5.8-liter Supercharged V8

2013 Shelby GT500 EngineThe big news for the 2013 Shelby GT500 is the new 5.8-liter supercharged V8. Nearly every part of the engine differs from the old 5.4-liter engine with new cross-drilled block and heads, updated camshaft profiles, a new TVS 2300 series supercharger and an upgraded cooling system. The result is ...650 horsepower and 600 lb-ft torque, making the 5.8-liter V8 the most powerful production V8 engine in the world and allowing the GT500 capable of reaching 200 mph.

The rest of the powertrain has been updated as well with a new carbon fiber driveshaft, upgraded clutch, transmission and axle. A final drive ratio of 3.31:1 is now standard.

To me the inflated price the dealers will want will not be worth it.

Notice that they neglect to mention how much it weights...which is roughly 500lbs more than the Corvette

Oh, and the latest Corvette is the ZR1, not ZL1

You're right, the Corvette is the ZR1. The fastest Camaro GM recently unveiled is the ZL1.

The Camaro is pretty porky, too. Both the Camaro and the Stang are closing in on 4000 lbs...the stock 1965 GTO in my garage weighs about 3300 lbs...how can these new cars with aluminum blocks, carbon fiber this and fiberglass that, be so freaking heavy?!?

Does all the copper in the electronics and motors, etc really add up to that much?

2012 vette ZR1 with unreal numbers at the track = $100,000
2013 shelby gt500 with a lot of poneys but will still corner like an 85 stang = probably $100,000 if you get a smokin deal????

Nope, but the comfortable seats, the luxurious interiors, the ABS modules, traction control sensors, larger brakes, stiffer sway bars, better suspension, air bags, stiffer frames, etc all do.

hehe..."ABS modules, traction control sensors" theres about 5 pounds of equipment max. im sure that the larger brake systems are lighter than the old drum brakes that were on cars in the 60's...maybe iteriors, automated componants and crash protection is where its going. not in sensors.

...the sound dampening materials, trim panels/pieces, motorized seats/mirrors/windows, emissions controls...

If it wasn't for the aluminum blocks and composites/plastics, I bet todays' cars would weigh 5000 lbs.

having stripped more than a few cars for race prep it is crazy what kind of junk you pull out and how much it weighs. and you could definitely cut out some serious weight in a modern wiring harness in just wire and sensors.

Will all 2013 Mustangs still have solid rear axles?
