Official Laguna MotoGP 2012 trip thread.

Ok, who's going? I'm still tentative, but I hope to. I thought I'd give a place to have people post about it if they're planning or actually going, and maybe some contact and/or itenerary info.

    Post up!

    I am going for sure.

Plan to Trailer to Mammoth Lakes the weekend prior, hit the races, then ride the rest of the second week. Ultimately, making a loop of northern and central CA and parts of Nevada.

I'm going, but work has yet to decide if they are going to give me the time off to be able to ride out. If not, me and the wifey will fly and rent a car, and my buddy will trailer my bike for me. Either way, I will get to ride up to SF, via Alice's Restarant, and also get to see the races.

Update, just recieved work from Control that I get my 2 weeks off for MotoGP, yea!
Now I will be able to ride out and back on my new Multistada. Hell, the wife might even want to ride due to the most comfortable seating.

So I'm seriously giving this some thought. I've never been, so I'm looking for feedback on routes out there for riding, lodging info, and costs. Also anyone riding out that wouldn't mind me tagging along would be great.

The best way out is via Reno/Tahoe. Further south you have to slab it thru Nevada and the Mojave desert. Too far north and it's just really far.

Unless you want to make that part of the trip... I went out through Nevada so I could hit Yosemite. Worth it!

MAP - I rode from Denver to Tonopah on day 1, then Tonopah through Yosemite to Salinas on day 2.

Nice! By Nevada I was referring to the Vegas -> Barstow -> Bakersfield suckage.

Re: Official Laguna MotoGP 2012 trip thread.

My wife and I are going 2-up this trip on the MTS. We are going basically Hwy 50, but might drop south to go thru Yosemite to mix things up a bit. I usually do this in 2 days, but am throttling back and doing it in 3 to make it a bit more enjoyable for the spousal unit if we decide to do Yosemite.
Anybody is welcome to tag along, but my usual traveling caveat applies. If we are not compatible for any reason we reserve the right to go it alone. I do this to have fun, I'm sure you are doing it for the same reason.
Day 1 Front Range to Salinas, UT.
Day 2 Salinas, UT to Mammoth Lakes, Ca
Day 3 Mammoth Lakes to Carmel, Ca

You may PM me if you are serious about going out with us.
See you out on the road......

I am about 90% in on going so far.

I can probably take a little over a week off, so 3 days out, 2 days for race, and 3 days home.

Things I want to see along the way:
Grand Canyon - This one might get skipped, but never know
    Sequoia Forrest
    Yosemite
    San Francisco
Reno? - might stay there one night depending on Yosemite.
Highway 1 - I know it will be busy, but it would be fun to take it starting as far South as possible.
Mulholland Drive? Is it worth it?
Vegas on the way out or back - one night.

I will be on a R6 and I can go 400-500 miles a day pretty easy as long as I have some fun roads (sounds like that will be hard to find).

I will be missing Round #5 at HRP, but I will have already missed the first 2 production 250 races, so won't matter this year.

Do you guys have an estimate on your outlay? What are you doing for lodging? Hitting PCH is definitely something I'd like to do as well.

I think the most expensive part will be hotels around the track. I looked the other day and it is around $200-300 a night.

Everything is more expensive in CA, so look forward to $5 gas also.

    $300 for gas - ~2800 miles @ 40 MPG

Vegas AND Reno could get expensive also -

Yes, I wouldn't be opposed to camping at the track, but not on the way out and back. Nothing like a few beers and a real bed after 500 miles on a R6.

We used to stay in Salinas, and also try Hollister, though that's more of a drive.

We stayed in a rented house in Prunedale, 15min from the track last year. 5 of us chipped in and it was cheaper than hotels.

The spousal unit and I are going this one solo after thinking about it further. No offense to anybody, it is just the way to go for us on this trip.
We have all our logistics in place already, and as others have stated, lodging can get expensive.
We stayed in Salinas once, and while cheaper, the reason is it's a shit hole. It's mostly a farming community and they have all that is accosted with that environment, including a fair amount of Mexican migrant workers.
The track is an option, but security is a valid concern. Good luck in your endeavors to go out for the races, perhaps if anybody does go we can meet up Friday or Saturday night down @ Cannery Row and share some beers. See you all out there!

Hey! Watsonville wasn't THAT bad. :\ We stayed at the KOA (rented the Kabins) year before last. It was too far away and there isn't much else in Watsonville itself.

We lost our nice aluminum ramp last year .. stolen out of the back of our truck while we were at the track. That was in Prunedale.
