Was test ride/ Now VFR questions

I've been having some serious thoughts about trading the Duc for a VFR. I'm pretty conflicted about giving up the 748 but I'd like to check out some viffers and maybe even ride one. I'm definitely not going new if I do it so I'm not too interested in riding the latest model. The obvious thought that comes to mind is Fay, any others have and offer test rides on them?

Aurora Honda has had a white one for quite a while. I'm pretty sure it has Ohlins suspension and some other upgrades. They seem good to deal with too.

    That bike is set up...

and Birchy's right. It's been there forever. I don't think they're in a rush to sell it seeing as one of the salesman loves to ride it.

I test rode this one at Grand Prix about a year ago (then bought the RC51 - no comparison)

It was clean and ran great!

If I remember correctly it's the owner's bike. I wish I had the extra money for it; it's a beauty. I'd have to remove the big Ohlin's sticker on the side.

You wouldn't happen to recall price by chance?

What generation/years VFR are you thinking about?

05ish, prefer fully bagged, and as close to a straight as I can get.

Ok, 6th gen model. I would go with a 2006 or later since they made some changes to the VTEC system that year that made it a lot smoother. I see a couple on CL at the moment (one silver 2008, one black 2006) that have bags.

I saw an anniversary edition, I see you have one, anything special about it aside from the paint?

Nope, the internals are the same. RWB is the proper color scheme for a VFR.

But if you blend all of the colors together you get white light - so you could also get a white one and Dirk would probably agree that it was "proper"

I owned a 94 VFR for a long stretch and did a lot of commuting on it. It was a great motorcycle and one of the ones I wish I would have kept. I outfitted it with Givi bags and a heattroller and rode it every day there wasn't fresh snow on the ground. Super fun, great bike, ultra reliable.

Pearl white is the only solid color VFR that I like. I will have the '87 and '93 versions in the stable at some point.

    The '87:

If I was thinking about joy rides in the mountains for pleasure the 748 was a way better toy.

For daily commuting, long trips and sheer maintenance free riding the VFR was a better bike, but when it came time to sell, the VFR went up for sale and the 748 did not.

And in my world, I bought the VFR to replace my 750 Gixxer for street riding. I realized that I would never ride the Gixxer on the street like it was meant to be ridden, and the ergos killed me after about 45 minutes, so I turned it into a track bike. You shouldn't get the impression that the VFR is just a touring/commuting bike. It is quite capable in the twisties. It is heavier than a supersport (about 50 lbs heavier than your Duc) but I don't find that it hampers me much at all in the canyons. I ride just fine with groups of supersport riders.

    Dirk, paging Dirk! http://denver.craigslist.org/mcy/2909158897.html

As much as I like the white RC36, I kind of want to do an RC30 homage paint scheme to one.

Re: Where to test ride a VFR?

Yeah I'm finding that I would like to do some distance and more daily riding and the Duc just isn't ideal. I know I don't come anywhere close to throwing her around like she's capable of, and I'm feeling a VFR would be plenty apt in the canyons. I'm leaning towards it but I'm really afraid I'm gonna regret letting the Duc go.
