August 31, Full Moon -- Trail Ridge Rd

August 31st is the second full moon of the month, this month. I propose a full moon ride!

I say we meet in Lyons at that Diamond Shamrock, fuel up if needed, and go from there. Might be a chance we can arrange a dinner somewhere too. Does anyone have any suggestions for dinners in Estes? I know there's that Mexican place and the Lake Mary (?) lodge, but if there's something else, I'm interested in hearing about it.

We ride up to the top, have our Kodak moments and then we ride back down.

    Sounds good?

How about, as things sit now: if you want to meet at the Shamrock, let's say 7PM. Dinner at 8PM somewhere in Estes Park and then after sundown, or moonrise, we roll.

    We have a dinner place!

An acquaintance of mine owns a photography gallery in Estes and his employees and customers all recommend this place. http://poppyspizzaandgrill.com/ 342 East Elkhorn Avenue Estes Park, CO 80517 GooMaps: http://goo.gl/BBbNY

When entering Estes Park on 36 (Elkhorn), it is on the left hand side of the road, across the street from the Library/Town Hall. The library/town hall has plenty of parking and then you just walk across the street. The above link has their menu so you guys can get an idea of what they have to offer. It's a fairly eclectic selection, so there's some choice there.

Oh, and I'll need everyone to give me a dollar so I can afford to eat.

According to this http://www.almanac.com/moon/rise/CO/...ton/2012-08-31 we should be good to go on moonrise times.

In times past some of us have arrived home well past 1AM, so be prepared for a late night. Also, bring something warm. It might be 90+ degrees in Denver that day, but it will be chilly at night.

These are FUN! Wish I was around for this ride. I always loved watching the headlights snake through RMNP. FYI: bring some warm cloths, it cools off!

It's called the blue moon and that is where the phrase "once in a Blue moon" comes from

I'm in! Places to eat in Estes, Sweet Basilico Cafe - Italian (Best in Town), Dave's BBQ, Village Pizza, Ed's Cantina (Meh), Mary's Lake Lodge (very meh, service was horrible last time we went), various downtown restaurants. Also heard the new Mexican Restaurant on Hwy 7 is pretty good.

I am gonna try to make it down from SD for this. I think some full moon shots with the Speed Triple would be sick.

We had almost 30 bikes the last time I did it! A truly unique and cool ride. And for anyone wondering, the pace is generally casual and relaxing.

Do you know how the parking is in these locations? Twenty to thirty bikes take up a lot of space.
