    New issue Cycle World

Great article on some older bikes.

    -86' GSXR-750 LE
    -89' Yamaha FZR750RR
    -90' Honda RC30
    -91' Kawasaki ZX-7R
    -92' Ducati 888 SP4S
    -99' Yamaha YZF-R7

Not going to spoil it, but a great read with some exceptionally awesome bikes.

Oh...and a CSC'r wrote the article and is pictured riding with Fast Freddie...

Of all those, the one that brings back the most memories for me is the "LE" Gixxer. Dry clutch, some other cool stuff. It was way cool, and Vance & Hines did it up right with larger coolers, aerospace fittings, pipe, etc. I got to see a couple really tricked out ones at their shop in Torrence CA. they also did some cool 1100 customer bikes up to look like the 750 LE. I wanted to do my '86 1100 like that just lacked the $$.

That's great. Thanks for posting the link, John.

The first time I saw an RC30 in person, I too was surprised at how small it was. Lot's of rumors that a modern version is in the works. I certainly hope so.

Not that Freddie needs my approbation, but he's right about the V4 power delivery. Racing the 750 Gixxer for a few years, I never really came to grips with the power delivery of the inline. When I picked up an '86 VFR a couple of years ago, which was my track weapon years and years ago, and took it for a spin, in the very first corner I hit with some speed and rolled on the throttle, my response was "Ahhhhh...., now that's the way power is supposed to be delivered." It really does make a difference, especially at the lower displacements. If Honda would make a 600 V4, it would dominate racing. My 500 Interceptor does not feel at all like you'd expect a 500 to feel in terms of power delivery.

"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self- preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property, and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."
