    Trip to Ouray!!

Since I am not doing the Clovis ride because that's just too much seat time two up my wife and I are ready for on an SV1000 we are going to Ouray instead!

The wife has never been and after me being there for the first time 2 years ago I decided she needs to see it first hand (i urge anyone who has never been to check it out) and see its beauty.

We are leaving early AM on Friday, because i would like to goof around on HWY 550 we are going to slab it to Canon city and hop right onto HWY 50 where the fun will begin and head straight to HWY 550. Play on the million dollar Hwy a little then relax and get to know the town of Ouray. A boring route yes I know but i don't wAnt us to be tired when we get to Ouray so we can walk around and what not.

The trip back though is going to be longer and a lot more fun/ scenic. The plan is to take HWY 550 to Montrose hop on Hwy 50 go east then cut north onto HWY 92 taking us through Black Canyon spitting us out at Hotchkiss. Take Hwy 133 all the way to Carbondale, then hop onto Hwy 82 all the way to twin lakes, catch Hwy 24 to 285 then head home.

Should be a great time for sure, as of now the weather looks like it will work with us in both temperature and no rain but that could easily change, we will have rain gear just in case.

I look forward to getting lots of pics, video, and a nice little write up when we get back.

    Re: Trip to Ouray!!

Umm... better check with CDOT if Independence Pass is open before Memorial Day. You might have problems getting past Aspen to Twin Lakes.

( ....where women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. I'm talking about a little place called... ...Aspen ...)

    From Cotrips.org
    CLOSED FOR THE SEASON
CO 82 Eastbound / Westbound Independence Pass (Milemarker 61.12-79)
Expected to reopen May 23rd at 2 pm weather and conditions permitting. Seasonal closure began November 9th, 2012 at 12:58pm.
Other than that, great route. I'll be headed out that way in June.

Some areas of the mountains have or will get up to a foot of snow from this storm system too.

Seems a little too early to start bouncing from pass to pass but that doesn't mean I'm not envious!

    Have fun!

    Re: Trip to Ouray!!

Indie pass opened early last year but its currently slated to be closed until on or about May 24th. Alternative is to take 70 from Carbondale to 24 to skip aspen and indie pass. Along as McClure and 133 is open, im ok skipping indie.

LOL swallows? Do salmon flock to San Capistrano too? If so, maybe I gotta go, 'cause it's multi-species attractive.

Why in national parks? Am I missing something? If you tell me its like getting a ticket out of state, where it doesn't really count, I'll be stoked.

    Re: Trip to Ouray!!

This is an amazing state in which we live, we stopped in Ouray last year on are way back from Pagosa Springs which is really nice too, I've lived here for 5 years and have seen more of the state than some of the poeple I work with that were born here they are missing out on so much this state has to offer. Have a great time and safe ride.
