    3 days, 1000 miles, 15 CO passes, July 26-28

    Planning on taking a ride around the SW,W and central CO end of July

    Spending the night in Cortez and Delta. Hopefully getting to Cortez early enough to go check out Mesa Verde.

    Black Canyon, 550, Unaweep, etc on the list. Was going to come back thru Wolf Creek but decided to skip for now due to the fires and traffic and most likely dirt on the roads.

    Any interest post up and I'll provide more details.

    Plan for now is to be at Jans in BV at 8 am for breakfast, KSU at 9

    Pace will be fairly brisk, with stops for photos here and there. Average around 350 miles a day.

    Also taking a detour down to 4-Corners so my buddy can get his photo op in.

    550 has about 23 miles of chip seal that was done a couple weeks ago, so hopefully it is clean by then.

    I've done this trip several times before. It's a fun route all though I usually run it over 2 days.

    I was thinking about running a similar route in two weeks through Taos and Durango.

    My buddy is coming up from TX and will want to take more pics, and I am out of riding shape for 500+ mile days.. so we are taking it "easy".
    We are doing more sight seeing than I normally do... LOL!

    How was Kebler Pass between Paonia & Crested Butte? I'll be in the area next week and thinking about either that or Cottonwood Pass.

    Being the tourist season, I can't guarantee a room if you wait until the last minute.

    I'm in I got a room booked for cortez and delta, likely going to leave Thursday after work for Buena Vista anyone recommend and motel in BV?

    Have a safe and fun ride and take some pics! Should be great riding with wonderful scenery. Stop as often as time allows and enjoy wildflower season... .

    Was a good day Friday. Did 50 and 550, and made a trip around Mesa Verde.
    Had fog, rain and sunshine, little bit of everything
    Sat started with an early run down to 4 Corners, and a top speed run on a private road...
    Headed up thru Telluride, weather and roads were great.
    Just south of Naturita on 141, jcj81 made a mistake and dumped his ZX12 off a 15 ft cliff. He is fine, bike not so good.
    Definately not the high point of the trip. After getting his bike out of the ditch, and him checked out, he decided to get a hotel and have his wife get him, rather than continue 2 up.
    So 2 of us continued up Unaweep Canyon, which was in a word, "awesome"
    Sun dawned wet and cold, and we rode up to Carbondale and then over Independence in cold, fog and rain.
    After following cages and dodging boulders and rocks at 15 mph all morning, we decided to call it a day and headed back home from BV.

    Overall a good trip in spite of loosing one bike. Will have to make a dedicated trip back to Unaweep for sure.

    I just missed you guys by a day, I was on Unaweep / CO-141 on Sunday. Didn't get to Disappointment Valley again this year, due the rain that hit you guys on Independence. Sucks to hear a bike was lost!

    Pass by any gaggles of BMW riders? The rally was in Pagonia this year. They're so precise and polite on their quiet German machines.

    Too busy riding for pictures ??
