May 28, 2013 - Southwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 5 - The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and contractor United Companies will begin a preventative maintenance project on US 550 from Silverton to Ouray next Monday, June 3.The chip seal operation will start just south of Ouray mile post 93 and continues south to mile post 75. The work was contracted to United for $800,000 and has an anticipated completion date of June 28.

Thank you everyone for the prompt responses. Will check it out in the morning and post an update.
Update: They did a fantastic job with the chip seal. Road is great. Chip seal is not loose. Just watch out for rocks from the canyon and some gravel from the recent rain. And of course the usual tourists. If possible, Gp on a weekday.
