Buying out of state - process?

Anyone bought a bike out of state and had it shipped? Not talking about fly-and-ride but buying on Craigslist. I know eBay has some buyer protection. Wondering how the sequencing works for exchange of money vs title & shipment of bike, keys etc.

Would the buyer send the full amount less a holdback for the bike to ship, then pay the rest afterwards upon receipt of the title and keys? I don't want to send the seller a bunch of money and then never get the bike. etc etc.

Re: Buying out of state - process?

I just recently bought my bike on craigslist from Nevada. We talked for awhile, numerous times. I transferred the money from my account to his, and he sent the title and everything in the mail. The trust issue was the biggest thing to get over. Talking to him for hours made it seem less nerve racking. I would imagine with your knowledge of bikes you would be able to call someone's bluff immediately. Does this help? You can arrange through a transport service to pick the bike up directly at their house and get it delivered to your house.
