    Gateway Canyon Ride

What's up guys? I'm new to the area and this forum and want to meet some people to ride with. My buddy and I are thinking about a Labor Day weekend ride and heading towards Gateway canyon and I want to know if any of you feel up to it. I'm thinking we'll depart Friday 8/30, stay the night in GJ. Ride gateway canyon to ridgeway then back to GJ or wherever. Head back home Sunday. For those that haven't been there, it a pretty badass ride. Ofcourse we'd make pit stops along the way. Let me know what you guys think. Looking forward to meeting all of you.

    Re: Gateway Canyon Ride

If you are you new to the area how do you know about the secret ride we dont talk about?? Seriously, when you get to Ridgway you will have lots of day left so I would head south for more great riding. If you make it all teh way to Durango great, otherwise turnaround with time to make it to Montrose for the evening. Then Sunday forget Grand Junction, there are much better rides back home. Quick ride would be to take 50 east to 24 then 24 north to Leadville. At that point take 91 north to Breckenridge then home. Longer ride and more fun would be 50 east to hwy 92, north to Hotchkiss, then east on 133 to Carbondale. At that point you can choose quick by taking 82 west to 70 and then home or take 82 east thru Aspen and over Independence pass to 24.

Today's ride-285-poncho springs-50-montrose-550-Durango! Then maybe 4-corners monument for fun. Roll home tomorrow... Should be nice.

Its about time they close that awful and horrible excuse for a road. Garbage that road is!

I managed to snap a pic a couple weekends ago right before they closed it. Absolutely horrific, don't waste your time if they ever re-open it.

    Re: Gateway Canyon Ride

I'm curious Jmetz (or anyone else). Is there gas available in Gateway? My last trip there was a gas pump at the resort, but that was 3yrs ago and Google Earth does not show that pump pad in satellite anymore. So I guess gas up in GJ or in Naturita?

    Re: Gateway Canyon Ride

Yeah they were building a gas station when I rolled through a couple weeks ago but other then that I've never seen gas in Gateway. I fill up in Naturita and GJ.

Gas is available at the gas station that they are building. I filled up twice this year with my credit card (NO CASH) ----- but that won't matter because the road is CLOSED

Closed? Due to mud or? I rode it last month and there were spots where you could see they had cleaned mud off the road.
Only gas we saw was GJ or Naturita.
Road was in pretty good shape tho.
