    Helmet locks

Just seeking feedback on helmet locks and if they are worthwhile. Mainly worried about leaving my helmet on my bike and seeking feedback about others experiences and recommendations about this.

Thinking about attaching a keyed lock to the frame.

    Re: Helmet locks

Locks are ideal for keeping honest people honest. The others, not so much. Stupid thieves will cut the chin strap to steal your helmet, or render it useless if you put an effective lock through the chinbar. Thieves suck.

    Re: Helmet locks

Unless it's where I can keep an eye on my bike/helmet from nearby, I bring the helmet with me. Jim's right, a lock through the chinbar is best.

We have a couple of these. I use em when we are touring to lock my helmet, or lock our front wheels together, or jackets ..

I assume there is a steel cable woven into the nylon strap? If so I like that lock as it looks easy to carry around and still give security.

Regarding helmets I am with you, I bring it with me 99.9% of the time.

Yes there's a steel cable woven inside and riveted around the loops. They also have longer locking tie down straps.

    Re: Helmet locks

You can drop by about any gun store and probably pick up a cable lock for free ?? nothing is theft proof but a deterrent is always a good idea.

    Re: Helmet locks

Nothing about a bike should really scream "theft proof" to you. If it's on the bike, or is the bike, it can be stolen. The best deterrent is just not having it there, i.e. take the lid with you.

Buddy of mine left his lid on the bike one Friday night for about an hour while he grabbed some food...came back later and some drunk asshole took a piss in it. Luckily he noticed before putting it on his head.

    Take it with you.
