4 Corners And Beyond Trip July 4th

I'm hitting the road for the 4th and looking for any advice or info anyone might have to offer. Things to know or lookout for etc.

Overnighting in Farmington and Grand Junction. Spending some time on day 2 in the 4 corners and Mesa Verde areas. Both of which I haven't been to since I was like 5.

Leaving July 4th and returning the 6th

    1300ish miles

Re: 4 Corners And Beyond Trip July 4th

Leg 1 Complete, 558.4 miles on the clock, 10hrs, tons of beautifully amazing scenery, and some good roads.

The good riding didn't really start until 285 & 64. 64 from that point on is great! But there are spectacular views do make up for the boring roads until that point. Chillin in Farmington for the night. Currently at 3 Rivers Brewery and I recommend it if you find yourself passing through. Even got to catch a parade and fireworks display! It's been a good 4th.

Not too bad when you're moving. Hitting town sucks

Leg 2 complete. Another 372 miles in the bag. Four Corners and Mesa Verde were cool to check out. Mesa Verde is actually a fun little road. So much beauty seen today I'm still taking it all in. Yes it really was that beautiful! I could've stopped every 5 min the whole way for pictures, and my pictures suck balls compared to actually bring there. The roads were awesome, and even hit one of my faves. Tough to ask for a better day.

Guys and gals do yourselves a favor and step out of your local riding shells, get on your bikes and get out there!

And now some more pics which do 0 justice to these views.

Re: 4 Corners And Beyond Trip July 4th

Leg 3 complete and back home. Today logged 424 miles bringing the trip total to 1354 over 3 days.

Today's ride saw a bit of everything. Some amazing roads. Grand Mesa was fun and picturesque as always. There was some gravel and road damage both of which were well marked. I saw Frogger and he didn't make it. Speaking of the frog, I saw lots of road kill today. A few beavers, a deer, a calf, birds, and a couple things I couldn't identify on the go. Bambi made several attempts on my life as well.

The ride to Carbondale was amazing as well. It was raining when I reached Aspen but stopped as I made my way up the pass. When I reached the summit of Independence Pass it was cold and threatening rain so I pushed on instead of stopping to snap a pic. The rain kicked back in at Twin lakes.

Made my way on down to Buena Vista where the rain stopped and the heat started. Getting on to 285 and it's a parking lot. Make use of the passing lanes when I can and finally breaks somewhat free just before 24. I get on 24 and it's wide open... Until Divide, where I would sit and bake in traffic FOREVER. All because of a stop light. Stupidest fucking place for a stop light btw. Pass the stop light and get my go on.

Onto I-25 for the home stretch. Traffic is moving nicely but not so fast, comes to a halt just north of the Springs.
Traffic is crawling for as far as I can see and it's starting to rain again. I've had enough so I ride the shoulder getting back in traffic here and there. Finally breaks free at Tomah Rd. Clear sailing the rest of the way and the rain let up just north of Castle Rock.

This trip was absolutely amazing (words can't describe) and I would highly recommend running this route if you get the chance. And now the only pics from the day.

Thanks! Yeah they squared it in on all 4 sides. It's $5 to get in and its cash only. Almost had to turn around until I remembered my emergency cash stash.

Nice ride report. That's my kind of trip.

Baggers? We don't need no stinking baggers! A nice sport tourer serves well. I say do it sooner then later!

Looks like highway 50 between Black Canyon and Gunnison but I don't think that's it... I can't remember the mountains in the background.

I want to know what road is "that one road"! Looks like a lot of fun and I need to come up with a 3 or 4 day trip.
