    Beautiful Engineering

    For you Honda/RC30 fans:

Back when Honda was bold enough to be different and build one of the greatest sport/race bikes in history. Today we just get stamped out inline fours that maximize profits. But there was a time when Soichiro dared his engineers to build innovative bikes...

That's effing sweet. The piano music didn't help the lull I've been in all morning, however.

The production v-4's have gear driven cam drives?
That helps explains the sweet, sweet, sound of those motors.

yup...up until 2002 when they put the v-tec in the VFR's were all gear drive cams.

the 97-02 VFR engines were probably some of the best motors ever put in a motorcycle. Reliable, decent power, great sound, last forEVER

At idle on my VF1000R you can't hear the exhaust over the whine of the cam gears. Federal noise laws led to their removal in the latest VFR apparently. V-TEC was a way of hitting ever-increasing emissions regulations. I've learned to live with it. If I could have the frame/suspension of my 6th generation VFR with a 5th generation motor (1997-2001), I'd be 100% satisfied. Well, there is a guy who has recently put together a supercharging kit for the 5th generation motor that gives it 150-160 hp...

No way to cram a 97-01 motor into an 02-07 frame?

Yeah, several people have tried but none succeeded apparently. Honda should just build a modern V-4 supersport. Rumors are circling that the Blackbird and the VFR lines will merge into a new 1000cc V-4 sport-tourer in 2009. I'll believe it when I can buy it. I doubt we'll see a supersport, but a 600cc V-4 would be a killer track bike.
