The remaining may be a little prosaic, but I like to write so you're stuck with it.
Sitting on the grid, visors down, revs up, clutch to the friction point. Right foot on the peg. Red light comes on and the clutch grabs, just a little causing the bike to lurch. I pull the cluch in, and wait for the light to go out. It does and I launch, and the whole time thinking "shit....I just jumped the start" "ok, keep your head down, hit your marks, ride your ride!" I set a blistering first lap and come around turn ten to see the dredded meatball flag and my number "shit...I have to do a penalty. OK I have three laps to do it, do I serve the penalty early, or go as hard as possible for three laps and then go in" I decided to serve it early, let ray-ray have the lead and see if I could catch up. End of lap two, hit the hot pit lane, come to a complete stop and go again. Exit the lane in 3rd position, and get my head down. Start reeling him in, "hit all your marks...keep going!" White flag, "shit....he's out of range, but keep your head down, maybe he'll make a mistake"
It wasn't to be. First and foremost congratulations to Ray. He had a great ride and didn't let his mind get in the way of his win. It's hard to lead the race and even harder when you know someone is gunning for you BIG TIME. Ray did a great job and is a great competetor.
Some quick thank you's
Single Track Mind and Dave for always keeping the bike set up great
Vanmar Racing, Mark and Tammy for keeping me on some really good tires
XBAM and Bree for helping keep my mind and body focussed
Action Press and Ed for being a great pit crew
Finally to all the racers, cornerworkers and crew for making these weekends the incredibly fun events that they are.
If you haven't come to a race, it's worth your while. We have two races left this season and it's better than any reality show ever could be! Remember, it's racing and anything can happen!
