    Firecracker 500

Yes folks, it that time of year again.
    The second "official" Firecracker 500.
I have been doing this run for over
10 years now so it really is not new to me.
Drift coined this ride last year and it
    kinda stuck.

Here's the drift, if you get my drift.
The route is 500 miles, completed in
one day, during daylight, on July 4th.
We meet here in the Springs, and end here as well.
The route is a large loop basicly to the Black Canyon
and back. If you have not been you should, as
it offers some of the best that Colorado has.

This ride is not for the meek, timid, unsure, or just
plain slow. Sorry, thats the way it is. "The Pace" is used
    for the entire ride.
You and your bike will be stressed for the entire day,
both will need to be in top shape.
Entry will be limited. PM me if you are serious.

    Peace Bash

Any attempt to coerce, blame, question, or pin your loser-riffic behavior on any of us, or those who are considered us for the night, as well as people we like, to include Salma Hayek and Nicky Hayden, among others, will result in a profanity stricken series of post that mock and taunt you incessantly, as well as many of us adding such insults to our signature lines. Avoid taking SoCo before bedtime. Do not use if you experience faintness, dizziness, inverness, difficulty urinating or blotchy skin. If I steal a line, quote, avatar or image from a post you make on the internet, you're not getting credit.*

I have been looking forward to this ride again this year. But I have turned into a slow street rider. Hope I am still fast enough to go.

I'm there. I promise to hide my M-80's and other such trinkets. I have places that we can seek cover along the route if needed.

Add another 240 to that and you'd get your iron butt.

Would an SV650 be able to keep up on the longer straights?

I'm sure you could keep up. Legend has it that a FZ600 got a ticket for well over 100mph on last year's ride. The better idea is to keep a good average speed and an eye out for obvious traps.

I'm on a bike that struggles to do limit+19, but I know the route and where the rendezvous points are.

That paticular FZ600 rider is still dealing with that ticket! lol, I'm finishing up my community service volunteering with the mill dog rescue group.

Save for the crash, delay and of course, monster ticket, it was a great ride -- I'll probably do it again this year, all though not speeding, I'm not sure if I regain my 10 (lost) points on the 4th or the 5th of July.

Clovis you will not regain them for 2 years from your date of convincation not the day you got it. So you still have well over a year of waiting. But how ever you will have more then 2 points to spare after the first year. Point system is fun.

    Re: Firecracker 500

How good of shape does the bike need to be in? Can my 6 year old tires make it. The rear is bald, but the front is kind of ok. Also, will you be carrying chain lube? My chain is a little rusty and needs to be tightened? Do you have tools? My bike does'nt have a headlight, but we'll be riding in a pack right! A fast pack! Woohoo I'm so excited. I'm just giving you shit. A fast pace and a group of people does not mix well with me, especially during that time with so many people off work camping and out and about in the canyons. Should I bring my Kevlar reinforced jeans just in case? Maybe some pucks? Do you require a helmet on this ride? Have fun guys, I'll be thinking about you guys while I'm trying to stand up on my birthday(far and away from Johnny Law).

    Re: Firecracker 500

There have been some questions about this ride.
"The Pace" will be used. If you need to ask what that is, this is not the ride for you. If you want to know what that means, google it, or look on our front page of this site, it is there.
There will be a ex250 and a ex500 going on this ride, so it is not about going fast, but rather maintaining a good "pace" all day. If you think your possibilities are high to get a ticket, this is not the ride for you.
Yes, people have gotten tickets on this ride, but it is the chance everyone takes if they choose to exceed the posted limit. This ride will not enhance your possiblity of getting one, unless you choose to.
This ride is longer than most, so the stops will be infrequent and short.
This is a chance to go on a ride and explore different scenery than what is offered on the Front Range. That is about it, so please don't PM me with stupid questions.
If you want to go, great! You will need only a good machine and a great attitude, and a degree of common sense.
