URGENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you are looking for some FREE (and totally legal) RAW editing software, please contact me IMMEDIATELY. Offer only lasts until end of day today.
Due to the way you must obtain the software, I'm not comfortable posting the method publicly (I promise it's totally legal!).
PM for details.
Our superintendent was welding some strands together here at the shop, so I decided to get some pictures. No editing done, just taken, thrown onto the computer and uploaded.

Thanks to Red Rocks Amphitheater for featuring my work on the Official Red Rocks Website!
^^^^ Sick! How many exposures did you do for that? Let me know next time you do something like that, I need to learn it.

I think that shot was about 20 exposures stacked (can't recall the exact number, but I'll check later this evening). Also - I'd be happy to show you the ropes for these kinds of shots. It would be nice to have some company the next time I head out. I'm always roaming into the woods alone to do some kind of whacky night exposure, so I'll definitely let you know the next time I wander out.
To get started, Wick, score yourself an intervalometer like this (but, obviously - one that is designed for Nikon). The key thing is for it to be programmable to allow for control of the exposure time, total number of shots, and delay time (interval) between exposures. That way you can set it all up, walk away and drink some scotch while the camera does her thing.
Also... it's good to have a quality tripod that allows for total control of camera height (the cheapies that have those center post supports usually limit you to 18"-20" off the ground). If you have a tripod with independent legs, you won't be limited with your shot composition or angle. See this image to see what I'm talking about...
I love the Manfrotto Carbon Fiber line, and use a ball head with my setup. To save some dollars, the aluminum tripods work just as fine - they're just a few ounces heavier. FYI - There's currently a $40 rebate on all of Manfrotto's CX tripods.
Word.
Those tripods are a lot fancier than the one I have! My D300 actually has an intervalometer built into it, that I haven't played around with yet. Apparently it's a little confusing to set up, but I'll give it a shot this weekend, so I'll at least know what I'm doing.

+1, the D7000 has a built in intervalometer too. Whatever your tripod it has to be rock solid though, the slightest movement between frames will show up on the image. I have a "cheap" aluminum one but weighted down with sandbags or a backpack it does alright.
Congrats Andrew, the ones in the gallery look great too.

And actually... the weight of the aluminum tripods can be a benefit over the CF units for star trails, and long shutter work. The added weight can provide stability - especially in windy environments.
The aluminum and CF tripods each have their pros/cons. Which sucks - because having two in one's photo arsenal is damn spendy. :/
Ran into Suki this morning down at Camren. Small world.
LOL, no kidding! But I would have never said anything if you weren't reppin on your heep! Was nice to meet you and look forward to seeing you around. Message me if you ever need a second shooter on weddings or large events!

Find me on Facebook!
I'm starting a directory of Denver Photographers to help with Google SEO by providing a site of links dedicated solely to photographers. The site is already live and may be seen at denverprophotographer.com. It incorporates the highest ranking Google search terms for photography services in Denver, which is also how the site's URL was selected. This combination of the site URL and on-page directory content should boost the Page Rank of listed photographers, which will ultimately increase traffic to their sites.
I'm offering up a FREE 1-year directory listing on DenvrProPhotographer.com to 3 CSC photographers to help build up the directory. First come first serve:
Slot 1. - Rice Bowl Photography
Slot 2. - open
Slot 3. - open
The annual listing fee will then start at $80 until more traffic analytic data can be provided.
PM me with your site link and a brief description of your services that you'd like to have posted next to your URL. Please note, your description must accurately describe the porfolio you offer on your webpage. If your description doesn't match your services, it will not do much good for the directory, and I'll have to ask you to rewrite it.
Let's get this ball rollin'!

New Moon on Thanksgiving Day!! Perfect time for those of you who want to try out some non-stacking star trails. Well, you could still stack, but the lack of moonlight allows for ultra-long exposures without stacking.

I'll be out of town this weekend - but just thought I'd pass on the lunar info!!
