How do you guys feel about adventure touring!?

I've been working on finding a way to pick up an ADV bike. If you get bored check out ADVrider.com. I spend hours on hours looking at all the adventures and bikes.
Current bike: 2005.5 KTM 950 Adventure (63k miles)
Previous Bikes: 2010 KTM 690 Enduro R / 2009 BMW F800GS / 2010 Triumph Daytona / 2007 GSXR 750 / 2004 CRF450 Sumo / Yamaha Secca II
Hell yeah! I'd love to be able to that.
I've got more flavor than a packet of macaroni.
I try and get down to Mexico every year. If you ever get bored with this country head south, it's awesome! Just got back from a 600+ mile Dual Sport ride starting in Grand Junction-Moab-Blanding-Hite-Green River-Grand Junction. Less than 50 miles were pavement. Quite the adventure.
It's over on ADVRider in the Rockies section under Canyonlands DS Ride.
Checkit out, I'll be posting my pictures in the next couple days. I'm completly worn out but definately worth every minute.
Find a bike to explore some of the backroads, you wont regret it.

I do too. I know I'd like to own an adventure bike later down the road. I love those KTMs, but damn they're pricey and expensive to maintain. For now,mt biking will have to suffice
I wonder if a V-Strom650 with dirt oriented tire would be adequate for those roads featured in the videos.
I can't wait to get my TM-40 pumper on the DR650 and start hitting the trails

Valve adjustment intervals on 950/990 are more frequent than on the other bikes. Tell me if it's wrong: "The 950 has valve checks every 7K miles, but the 990 has valve checks at 1.5K, 8K, then 16K then 32K....and every 16K there after".

I don't think the DRZ is going to be able to keep up with what some of these guys do, but it may be a rider/bike thing.
I need a stepladder to get on a KTM.

It's true, the manual may say that. I had 16.5k on my 05 and they never needed to be adjusted. My in-laws have two 06's with 30-40k (very hard Baja, MX miles) and they have never needed to be adjusted. It's not that hard to check the valves if you do it yourself.
FYI- this thread is in the "Beasts" section and you're not going to get a ton of KTM people. Go check out "Orange Crush."
You shouldn't own a dualsport and ride in remote locations if you don't know how to work on your bike.
