Well for those that want to make plans it will be the 3rd week in June and a will happen ride. Still looking at routes, but a 5 day trip. We will cut out Arizona and Colorado Springs. This trip will be riding riding and looking at the beautiful areas. At the end of a day, stop and have steak dinner, drink a few beers and take plenty of pain pills...haha. but this is a riding g vacation and its about the roads. Also if we get a big enough group then check out renting a cabin at each stopping area. Cheaper than hotel rooms.

I don't post often. I'm Drama's other half. Here is Bash's suggest route with a couple of changes. The route looks awesome. Hope the links work. Couldn't get Google Maps do what I wanted.
Starting at Penrose, 115 and Hwy 50. Changed the route to Buena Vista by veering off at Hwy 9(I like Hwy 9, fast road, almost never traffic or cops) to Hartsel at 24. Take 24 to Buena Vista.
Also changed end of day 3 route to head to Ouray as the stopping point.

Curious what bikes you are all riding on this long trip. Kerry I wasn't sure if you're riding the Gladius or the GSXR and your boyfriend on the KTM RC8?

I'll be on my S1000RR. I rode it to Arizona. Although it was painful at times, overall I'm not too bothered by it. I have rear sets, a Sargent seat, Heli Bars, and a double-bubble windscreen which all helped tremendously. Just wish it had cruise control.
Oh ya, one more necessity for this trip is a radar detector.
Ohhh I am also a strong maybe.... should be.... hopefully.
I'm doing the Colorado Classic 1000 on June 21-22, so that weekend is a no-go for me.
If you all do end up going that weekend, please make sure your bike and you are properly prepped for 4-5 long days in the saddle. Go over your bikes and fix any problems, even if you think they are small. Problems tend to magnify the farther away from a solution in my experiences. I would also fit new tires, or nearly new, and pack a tire repair kit with air pump.
Drink lots of water 3-4 days prior, and bring along lots of water and snacks to help stay hydrated.
If I do end up going, the wife and I will be on the Multistrada.

Seems the FJR would do well for this venture. I'm liking how this is shaping up!

There's a good little coffee shop, Kiva Koffeehouse, along Hwy12. You're carving corners on the way there and all of a sudden in the middle of nowhere there's a place that serves great coffee and snacks and IIRC cheesecake.
And I've heard, Hell's Backbone Grill serves up great steaks.

I think the DRZ would be better actually If you keep your bike's weight down you'll be ok, Clovis was 2-up and despite his relatively tame riding overheated his brakes not long into the Spine. But in his defense his bike was loaded up, and the Spine is very brake intensive.

I'm interested. I have an FJR and a FZ1. For this trip I would opt to take the mothership. I've never run out of has but we all came very close on last years spine 50 miles from Farmington and also on last years Moab trip in the aforementioned grand junction leg.
Not a bad idea to carry a small reserve.

OoOoo ROADTRIP!!!!!! I'm also planning a June trip too, so we'll see if this here will happen!
We will be posting soon a route starting thru denver, 5 days basically same route as above but going through Highway 9, which if you zoom in that is a seriously fun road through Springdale and over to Mount Carmel. Does anyone know how many miles that tunnel goes for? But day 4 will end in Pagosa Hot Water Springs where you can stay the night and chill in the hot water springs or go home from there.

I've stayed at First Inn in Pagosa Springs a couple times and is fine.

Also, nice restaurant with a bar, dining room and big patio right on the river one block east.
