I'm looking for a way to mount a GoPro on my bike where it's looking through the windscreen and picks up the dash, too. Any suggestions? Isn't there a mount that bolts to the gas cap ring on the tank?
Thanks!

you can find it cheaper on amazon. I use the suction cup mount on my gastank, it is ok, but it vibrates more then i like. I am going to buy a tri mount soon.

I don't like the idea of someone being able to see my gauges... but that's me.
Used to have a mount on my Gixxer's triple tree. With judicious aiming I could get the tach in the bottom of the screen and still a good view through the windscreen. Now I have a mount where the TripleR's stock handlebar mirror mounts.

The dash on the R1 has a meter that shows braking pressure and acceleration and deceleration force. Kind of stupid, really!! Like you're going to be able to watch it while you're stuffing it into a turn. The dash is mounted so low that I probably won't be able to get it into view, though.
Found a gas cap mount and I'll probably get that $23 bundle with everything. 23 bucks, what the hell. It's worth it to find out if it's worth a shit...

Out of curiosity (and no action on this forum) is this because there is a chance a police officer could view the video and with your speedo showing could use that to prove you were speeding?
I’ve always been curious on how much this would stand up in court. I guess you could say your speedo is off, but I believe that is also a reason for a cop to write a ticket. Then they would need to prove the speed limit on that road, but I guess with Landmarks that is also possible.
Just something to discuss

I am with Townie on this. Sure it might be cool to show how fast you were going, but even the potential to be used against you (no idea on the legality of it being confiscated) isn't worth it. Re the braking and throttle meters, MEH, for the street, seems excessive. I see value in it for critiquing track riding. I see no value in creating evidence of my indiscretions.

now you guys are assuming he is going to be doing something illegal!
Just having a camera at all will show how fast you are going relevant to the other vehicles and objects in the video.
even posting video's online could cause problems,

Yeah, I'm pretty mellow on the streets. 5 over and that's it. Cameras have saved people as well. Since I rarely speed, it would be an advantage for me to have it. You know, for the lame ass cop exaggerating the situation because I'm on a crotch rocket. However, the set-up is really for the track.

Yeah I was just making conversation and was also hoping someone with more experience could shed some light on the laws on videos in a situation like that. A speedo reading is going to be easier to judge than trying to compare it to other cars because you would need to know how fast those cars were going. Just wondering if you made a video and your speedo is showing and then the video shows a speed limit sign that you are over, if a cop could find this video later and write a ticket.
And of course it could help as well….I believe it was Grimm who got out of a ticket by displaying a video he had while riding; cop claimed he passed on double yellows and his video showed he did not. So in same regards you could get a wreck and have the other person claiming you were speeding when your video shows you were not. Just interesting to see how much merit this would have.
Plus, come on who owns a sportbike that has never sped…..I am sure we all have at one point.
Seems like from link you posted they can and will use a video to pursue charges...will be interesting to see if he got prosecuted.

Do you even ride bro?
You are correct about the Grimm story, but instead of taking in his video Grimm printed screen captures proving the cop lied and he didn't have to admit his entire video into evidence. I think we all know the full video "might" have shown some riding of questionable legality.

No simmer mode, boil only...
yeah i mainly have the camera so if someone cuts me off or a deer jumps out in front of me my family can have some closer.
Grimm did it right, you want pictures not video.
what cops can do and what they do do are two different things, but video taping yourself speeding isn't a crime, only speeding is. and then only if you get caught...
“Cops may be entitled to ask for people’s names and addresses and may even go as far as subpoenaing the video tape, but as far as confiscating the camera on the spot, no,” said Marc Randazza, A First Amendment attorney based out of Florida
“In general, police cannot confiscate cameras or media without some sort of court order. One exception is when a camera is actually being used in the commission of crime (e.g., child pornography, counterfeiting, upskirting).” Bert P. Krages II, the Oregon attorney

Watch it with the cop bashing CBR-cowboy, remember everybody on this forum works, and statistically speaking one of us is probably a cop. I met an asshole UPS driver once or twice. But Nolan was one of the coolest guys I've ever met.
There are other situations in which cops can take your camera. However unless it's a felony level crime, they can't. And even then it's sketchy, because it all comes down to reasonableness. Oh, you caught a murder on camera? Ya you're going to be camera-less for a while. Oh, it's one guy smashing a car with a bat? You might have to email a copy of the video to the cop, but that's it. And, if they know enough, the camera itself is not evidence and doesn't need to be taken, just the SD card. Well, laptops can download from SD cards. I carry a USB-mini cable. Cop ever wants a video I took, I'll download it from the camera right to his computer, that's all he needs besides my eventual testimony.
Furthermore, evidence of a different crime found on the footage during trial for your charged crime can't be used against you. Even if Grim had played the full video, it could not have been used against him for any charge other than the double-yellow. He could've been doing 212mph (Except not because he's slow and a pussy), and the Judge could've done nothing more than mention it. Your digital speedo is NOT proof, nor is the appearance of speed on a video.
I've had a GoPro mounted in my car/bike ever since the Hero3 was brand new. It has saved me once, entertained me plenty, served as evidence against others twice, and never been used against me. I ride with it on top of my helmet. In a normal riding position, it catches the dash at the very low end, so it's perfect for me. My bike also displays live, and displays maximum reached, lean angle, braking percentage and rate, throttle position, if DTC was activated, and if ABS was activated. None of this in and of itself is illegal, except DTC. And even then, you'd have to find a cop who knows what DTC is, knows how it displays on the dash, actually looks for that, and can successfully argue it wasn't sand on the road (Good luck). Fact is my DTC is so seamless you wouldn't even know it's activated unless you're on the bike.
For the bikes, don't use the cheap mounts. They all fit loose, and have poor tolerances. My actual base plates I only use GoPro stuff, every other one I've tried is always loose. If you use yours on a car also, like me, buy the cheapest skeleton case on Amazon as the cameras overheat in a car, and generally need to be charged while in use.
All I see is blah, blah, blah, blah, revenue generation and AAcwagon trying to hand out hugs.....
How is traction control illegal?

DTC in and of itself is not illegal of course, however if it is activated, it shows your tire(s) spun. And although tires spinning is not expressly illegal, try doing a smoky burnout in front of a State Trooper and let me know how it works out for you. The courts have held that spinning your tires is at the least Careless Driving. Now road conditions could give you a valid defense for this if you were charged, but that is up to the Judge. Obviously if you spin a tire for a couple seconds on ice I find it hard to believe you'd ever be charged with Careless Driving. But sand in the roadway? It probably depends. Obviously it is subjective and based upon the specific circumstance.
