Moab/Durango/Gunnison the weekend of Sept. 26/27

Thinkin about doin this in a couple of weekends. I've never been to Durango, so I was thinking about spending the night there. Anybody interested in joining me?

I've only ever done the "shortcut" from I-70 to Moab, and it was one of the most memorable roads I've ever ridden!! I'd be open to suggestions for the return portion.

    List of those interested/confirmed:
    Spiderman - confirmed
    OUTLAWD - confirmed
    ShinySideUp (30% maybe)
    PoweredMotives (partial, maybe)
Nick_Ninja - Taking different route to Durango
Sortarican - Taking different route to Durango
Ninja2 - Taking different route to Durango
noskills - Taking different route to Durango
powers - Taking different route to Durango
aerofaze - Taking different route to Durango
    norcolmille (perhaps)
    Horsman
    Foolds
    Live4theMoment
    Repsol a095
    max675

Edit: Route revised as per asp_125's suggestion
Morrison - Moab - Durango - Morrison (Loop)

If you have time, return over Red Mtn Pass north from Durango to Montrose then east thru Gunnison.

Good idea - the last time I went Moab, we spent the night in Montrose, and took that road back. It was very nice!!

Late September - better have a backup route that stays on the lower passes, or be pepared to sit awhile if it snows up high.

I'd like to, but don't know if I can get away with it? Put me down as a 30% maybe.

Do you have a place to stay in Durango? camping?

No place yet. Was thinking about just finding a hotel (something on the inexpensive side if possible).

We stayed at the Iron Horse Inn in Durango a couple of years ago. They have suites with two stories and the main level with couch and 3 big beds upstairs. Wasn't too bad of a price for two rooms...about 40 per person.

There's another really scenic route you could take from Durango if you go East to Pagosa Springs and then head North along hwy149, aka The Silver Thread Highway. You'll go over several passes to include Wolf Creek Pass.

    Enjoy the ride.

If you all head through Gunnison for sure be sure to stop by and say hi!
Also I'll be willing to scout Monarch pass for you to see if it's free and clear a day or two ahead of time. Just let me know.

Hmm... I have always wanted to go to Moab and Ouray on my bike. I could see doing this ride. I will assume that you would leave Morrison Saturday morning? I could meet you in Silverthorne sat AM and break off at Hartsel on the way back to hit the Springs.

Keep me in the loop becuase this trip looks amazing.

Re: Moab/Durango/Gunnison the weekend of Sept. 26/27

Everytime I go to Moab to mountain bike or camp, that road along the Green River from CO, and some of the local Moab roads make me wish I took the bike. Maybe next time I will take the dual sport.

Re: Moab/Durango/Gunnison the weekend of Sept. 26/27

Interested but I won't know till 1 week out if I can indeed go.
    Would that create a problem?

The only thing that doesn't make me go wow is 288 miles on 70 for a 41 mile stretch of road. Maybe once I see it I will change my mind. Since you haven't been to Durango, I assume that you haven't seen the 550 or 145. I am split between the two on which is my favorite in the south/west side of colorado. Last month I went up Bryce Canyon, UT to Grover UT up the 12, and that is the shit! A definite must see!

Anywho I'm game if late sign up isn't a problem.

You can do that route without having to spend time on the super slab.

As long as it doesn't add too much time to the trip, but like I said, I'm open to suggestions. I know that route cuz that's the way I've gone in the past. Sure it's not the funnest, but it gets us there.
