    Highway 7 is gravel....

I jumped on 7 last night from Lyons headed toward P2P. About 5-8 miles in the road has been stripped of asphalt and is all loose big gravel. I rode for about a half a mile and it was horrible so I turned around.

I would avoid until they get this fixed again!

I can't think of a reason why. It wasn't in too bad of a shape.

Well, shit, that changes my plans for tomorrow.

I was up there last week and, other than some shoulder work at one point, there was no indication that CDOT was going to rip up the road surface. Didn't they just repave that stretch a few years ago?

They had trucks stationed in several places that I passed that looked like they were getting ready to rip up a LOT more of the road. There are warning signs as you leave Lyons about road construction and long waits. I thought at 7pm how bad could it be. Sure hope they get it fixed up fast!

Yeah they were doing some shoulder work last week but wasn't bad, i swear they tear up or chip seal roads that are not even close to being bad, and make them shit.

    Re: Highway 7 is gravel....

As of today, the construction on 7 stops at 72/P2P. However, a few miles south on P2P, in one of the pullouts, there are like 50 construction signs that look like they're waiting to put them out. So I'm thinking that construction might be expanding...

I also saw a couple of what I thought were police cars but realized they were lead cars for when they only have one lane open. Looks like that whole area is going to suck for a little while.

The south west part of the state is pretty good! Some construction on 133 at McClure pass and a few other areas.

Drove a few miles in the car on the 7 near the Raymond area the few miles I drove were done new chip seal and lines painted. Im staying up in the area for a few days, but came up the back way to avoid the 7. Looks like it could be rode at an easy pace.

    Re: Highway 7 is gravel....

I just took 7 in the truck and it looks like they finished the gravel part that I was trying to drive through when I started this thread. There are still signs saying LOOSE GRAVEL but in the truck I didn't notice an issues with the road. And, there were a lot of bikers hitting it pretty hard today.

Chip seal in general is crap...and that is being nice. It is a lousy excuse for something that is supposed to be called paving.

    Re: Highway 7 is gravel....

Just rode down 7 today. The construction is all done and the road is pretty nice. There are a few places that were still a little bit oily, but it will be really sweet in a couple of weeks.

There were still a few "Loose Gravel" signs up, but there's no loose gravel.

Rode it this eve. It has been traveled on allot but there is definitely still dangerously loose surface chip. Still not to great IMO. It is going to be super grippy in the near future.

Also rode 7 yesterday. 5th gear full throttle turns, on a drz of course. So much fun, but chip seal eats up a set of tires in a hurry!

By near future you mean next year? haha

I rode it today and while I will agree its one of the better chip seals I have seen, its still not near what it was prior. It reminds me of early season riding when you force yourself to stay in the tire lines. Crossing the middle part of the lane is suspect at best.
